The 'Champaign News Gazette' has published an Illinois HS Football All State team every year since 1936.

Before the days of Joe Terranova & Tom Lemming & then the Internet sites, these All State teams were closely followed(with Illinois being a top State for college recruits.....times & demographics have changed...)

The players listed below all enrolled at ND after making all state the prior year:

EDIT: Mac Wenakunas (sp?) Georgetown, Ill came to ND as a V-12 trans. in '43...expected to be a star for the Irish, Mac was booted out of V-12 training(and hence ND) just before the start of the seaon- when it was discovered that he had secretly gotten married-a no no!

Mac went back to Illinois & was the 11th player selected in the 1946 NFL draft
