Athletic Ability: Member of the tennis team in college MVP my second year. Wanted to play on the tour but then saw Jimmy Connors (same age) play against Roscoe Tanner of Standord in the '71 Pac-8 singles championships...realized then that the tour wasn't going to be in my future...just a different level of tennis. Assistant coach of the men's tennis team at Fresno State from 1979-1982. Also a teaching pro. Claim to fame...one of my kids at Fresno State went on to become Jim Courier's head coach when Courier was ranked #1 in the world for 1992. And was also Nick Anderson's coach (Wimbledon finalist 2018).

Sartorial Style: Traditional and laid back. And easy.

Favorite Beverage and Consumption Freq: Single malts, IPA's and good wine.

Political Philosophy: Conservative Independent.

Religious Philosophy: Practicing Catholic.

Musical Favorites: Wide and varied...R.L. Burnside, Van Morrison, The Clash, CSNY, The Allman Brothers, Janis, Jimi, Jackson Browne, The Byrds, Buffalo Sprinfield, Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, Stones, Mississippi hill country & Delta blues, Steve Earle, Tupac, Miles, Coltrane, Waylon, bagpipes (I played them) traditional Irish...and the Dead.

Favorite Quote from an ND Coach: "I think this is how Hitler got started." Ara describing his first ND pep rally.

Miscellaneous Data: I was a working cowboy (my dad was a farmer...cotton) for a bit after graduating college...on a cattle ranch out of Eagle Point, Oregon. We had 400 pair and 21 bulls spread out over 50,000 acres of BLM land for grazing...had to drive them down and gather them up before the winter snows set in. Had a string of three horses. Rode one of them every third day because we were working our and their asses off...in the saddle usually before sun-up and oftentimes not out of the saddle before sunset. I loved it...and the people. Honest and hard working.
