This is not a vent board or any other kind of therapy. Before you hit the POST button, ask yourself if your contribution will add to the level of discussion going on.
Important notes on articles:
- Please do not copy entire articles into your post; rather, provide links to them.. We are now links-only for ALL Internet publications. If only a small portion of the article pertains to your post, Fair Use allows you to copy those one or two paragraphs, provided you cite the author's name and the publication for which he writes. Otherwise, put a link in the HTTP Link box.
- Even if you're copying a reference to an article, provide a link to the page from which the article came. We're trying to cut down on duplicate topics, and the posting process will check the link to your article to see if it's already being discussed on this board. At the very least, you'll save yourself some grief on the boards.
- If your first reaction after reading the article you're going to share is the author is uninformed / stupid / a jerk / all of the above, it's not worth sharing with anyone. Not every article needs to be discussed. The more the hair-pulling articles are discussed (e.g. ESPN Page 2), the more the authors will write hair-pulling articles.

Board Ops, might be worth pinning the Zorich-Freeman podcast by gregmorrissey
The Zorich Podcast with Marcus Freeman (7/8/21)
At least for a little while. Credit to JT and others for posting multiple
times already.
Highlights:
- Air Force lifer dad, Korean tiger mom
- "Have to attract these kids...can't sit on your high horse
- "Let's make the place sexy to get the kids here...now let me really tell you what makes Notre Dame unique"
- "Take your time, go home and think about it...Notre Dame will win"
- "This place is unbelievable, man. I wouldn't have said this five months ago until I sat in this chair, I believe this is the most unique, amazing job in the country. Because you can truly offer a kid something here that nobody else in the country can do. Nobody. We just gotta be able to explain it to these young people in the right way."
- "I just think there's no better place to be in the country" **NOTE: At this point, Zorich is about to rip his shirt off and petition for a 5th year.
- "I'm looking for the best possible football players that fit Notre Dame... That might take some convincing... We have to convince these kids that Notre Dame is the best place for them. So, let's go find the best possible football players, and if they fit this place -- and it takes a unique individual to make it here, let's be clear about that, not everybody can make it at Notre Dame and that's our job as coaches to evaluate can this kid be a fit at Notre Dame -- but let's not stop it before we see how good a football player he is"
- the 27 minute mark to the 30 minute mark is must listen. Can't do it justice typing it here
- "Let's go. Everyday, let's go....Everyday I wake up and I just go 100 mph. It's all I want to do."
- "You better get on the phone and convince these young people...We have to show the history...so they can go 'Ok, now I know why Notre Dame is Notre Dame'...cause if we can do that then watch out"
- "I tell our defensive coaches, we're judged off our ability to get our guys to play above their God-given ability"
- "If you tell them I'm here to serve you, I'm here to help you..."
- talking about going to school with 5* students "If it were easy then it wouldn't be Notre Dame. That's what makes Notre Dame, Notre Dame"
- "When these kids, these football players, look at that 8,000 students in the student section, they know 60% of them. They know those students because they're in class or they're in dorms, they're interacting with these people. And, to me, that means something, that is a part of the experience. And, I'm envious of them....It's really a unique experience."
- "Recruiting is an area you can be outworked. And, that's where you don't want to be outworked. I don't ever want to be outworked for a recruit. And, I want to make sure our staff understand that we are going to do this together."
- "Let's get these kids to say yes to this great university"
- "Leadership is the ability to make others better"
- "My job as the leader is to serve...I'm here to serve you all...I will make time no matter what I have to do to help you reach your goals...that's what leadership is
- "I'm the most competitive person you'll meet"
- "I'm going to go as hard as I can"
It takes a lot more than charisma to be an elite college football coach. And, there's a lot of things that can happen that keep Marcus Freeman from that level. But, it won't be a lack of effort or a failure to embrace Notre Dame. And, after watching this, I'd be surprised if it's an inability to get elite coaches to join him. And, I'd be surprised if he tolerates anything less from his coaches. So, it basically comes down to can he/Notre Dame identify the elite coaching talent necessary to get to that next level? The defensive coordinator and offensive line coach as well as how he approaches the analyst position will be very telling.
