So ND pushed "winningest all-time HC" theme by counting... by Scoop80

vacated wins and ignoring most losses all-time, and BK decided that his becoming "winningest" merited a raise? Did Savvy help create his own monster?

On the Stanford telecast, they recycled the myth, showing BK w/ his 113 claimed wins compared to win totals for Rockne, Leahy, Parseghian, and Holtz. Most every telecast this season pushed that meme. None of them ever posted comparative loss totals. BK had 8 losses in 1 season. Rockne, Leahy, and Parseghian had, respectively, 12, 11, and 17 losses TOTAL.

There's always a human tendency to buy into your own BS. There's a danger, however, in buying into it wholesale and making life-altering decisions based upon it. I guess that there's no difference between making an game-deciding gaffe w/ Tulsa (and resolutely defending it) and leaving one of the most secure 7 figure jobs in America b/c of your inflated sense of self-worth.

As to LSU, it's interesting to wonder whether BK's 2-0 record in lower tier bowls against them was an influencing factor. In the Music City, LSU likely would've won a cliffhanger had Miles given Fournette more carries. There was also a call on a goal-line pileup at the end of the 1st half that easily could've gone against ND. In the Citrus, Boykin made a spectacular catch and run to save ND's bacon in the waning moments.

Maybe they wouldn't have hired BK had the ball not bounced ND's way in those games. Maybe they thought BK looked pretty sharp compared to Miles & Orgeron. I have no clue what their decision-making process was, but that's a 9 or 10 figure decision that utterly defies common sense.
