and you could continue that with the odd-numbered year trend back to 2015.

The 2015 team is the lone team in the entire Kelly era that I think had the talent on the field to legitimately compete for a national championship. Possibly 2011 too (more or less the 2012 team but with additions of Michael Floyd, Harrison Smith, Jonas Gray and Aaron Lynch minus a few guys like Russell, Golson, Daniels, probably some others I'm not thinking of), though QB would probably limit their ceiling.

As far as if each team brought their A game, I'd say 2017 > 2019 > 2021. Resume? I don't know, I guess flip that order given the number of losses (and the complete embarrassment in one of them for 2017 and 2019 each), but this year's team has had some pretty bad performances too (if Toledo was the equivalent of 2019 Michigan or 2017 Miami, that game probably would've mirrored those).
