Fun win but lots of improment needed by Wass

I didn't get to see all the game since I had a lot of running to do (I got permission to return to work and had to get things in order). It is always fun to watch the defense score and make big plays. It has been a long while seeing a dominant effort like that. I can remember watching some teams in the late 80s and early 90s not play that well yet having more talent. My dad was saying ND needed to go to a 4-3 a couple weeks ago. The defense looked good in this scheme today. Maybe it was due to UW preparing more for a different look, but the DL played quite well. There is always room for improvement, and you can't rely on interception returns to score points, but sometimes you need those sorts of wins. Now, onto the offense...
The offense has a ton of work ahead of them. Geez, the QBs seem to be running for their lives back there. And how many yard rushing? 3? That is totally unacceptable. I know there are games where the opponent just stops the run. But the OL has to improve. I still think 4 loses is realistic if the OL doesn't improve. Come on, 4 games in guys. I know there are injuries, but every team has them. That being said, things could have really fallen apart when the 3rd team QB had to play much of the second half. He did "OK" and the defense picked up the slack, so give the kid some credit.
As for Kelly, some things never change. On this board, it is the constant whining about him. I have never been a Kelly fan, but the constant whining gets old quick. Sure, he isn't Rockne, but Kelly never got to play Detroit Junior College, North Dakota Agricultural, or Muncie Union. I think my dad put it the best. Sometimes a coach takes a team as far as he can, and then it is time to step down and let someone else take over. Like it or not, Kelly did bring ND football back from the mess of the Weis and Willingham years. He's won games and had winning records, but maybe that is the most he will do. Perhaps it is time to move on.
