We're trying to cut down on duplicate topics, and the posting process will check the link to your article to see if it's already being discussed on this board. There are two separate issues here by FL_Irish

Most of the criticism Kelly seems to be getting from non-ND sources is pearl clutching about the supposed horror of suggesting that the team be killed. I take a backseat to no one in my disdain for Kelly, but on this front I agree with him. It is a well known football joke. Not surprisingly, when he tells it it isn't funny. But it's a joke nonetheless. Get over it.

Those of us connected with ND who know him realize that the actual issue was in deflecting any and all blame to the players while ignoring the failures of the coaching staff.

The problem is not that he jokingly suggested execution in placing the blame entirely on the shoulders of the players. The problem is that he placed the blame entirely on the shoulders of the players in the first place. But much of the criticism of him in the wider sports world is incorrectly focused on the former issue rather than the latter.
