Personally (now antibodied + vaxed, FWIW, so not one of the hoax crowd), I would have gladly gone to games last year as I don't consider outdoor activities high risk, but also can understand ND acting on the side of caution with the uncertainty given 100k people coming in from across the country, lack of vaccines, and the (justified) priority on students being on campus vs. virtual. That said, I think Airborne nailed it below - people are mostly vaccinated, these are outdoor events, and at some point people have to balance risk/reward: if you're high risk, watch at home, if you're concerned there is nothing stopping you from wearing your N95, and otherwise just enjoy the game outdoors.
