this is really the first clear signal by jt

that the other conferences are not on board with the way the SEC is trying to embrace the sport as minor league NFL.

If it were up to the SEC, they would likely split from the NCAA for football, pay the players salaries, and work on a salary cap with strict restrictions similar to the NFL. Whether players would be required to attend classes is up for debate; the thought is that perhaps they would be viewed as "apprentices" and if their football career didn't work out, they could return and take classes at the schools.

The other conferences, while they are completely fine with Notre Dame men like Savvy Jack Swarbrick and Gene Smith getting rich (to go along with class guys like Jim Harbaugh) are not ready (yet) to embrace that sort of model. They are more or less fine with name, image and likeness, but do not want to pay the players and want to somewhat retain some form of academic standards for athletes.

At the end of the day, this is likely just step one. What happens from here will be steps to one or the other outcomes.
