I guess I disagree that it will fundamentally alter the sport for the worse. Mostly, because it has gone on for at least half a century and the sport hasn't fundamentally been altered for the worse.

If you want to argue that the relentless pursuit of profits at all costs in all aspects of society has fundamentally altered life for the worse over the last 50 years, then I would be more likely to agree with you. Or, maybe you held out the hope that college football maintained an angelic position uncompromised by the relentless pursuit of profits all around it, which good for you if you did. I didn't so I don't get too worked up by this latest change.

I'll admit there will be some chaos, and there will be some things that are a unseemly. And, I'm sure there will be some recruits that switch schools based on NIL or some transfers due to NIL. Again, I simply disagree that it will fundamentally alter the sport for the worse. At least, any more than Alabama having 50 coaches on staff and paying $50m a year (or whatever the number is) for coaches has altered the sport for the worse. The sport is following the path of society where the rich get richer, and I agree as a larger point is worse for society and the sport.
