Here's the argument by KeoughCharles05

In a 12 team playoff, it is inevitable that one year, an objectively undeserving team will win the championship.

The problem isn't that teams who "have no chance" face such absurd odds of winning. The problem is that their odds of winning are greater than 0.

Taking the top six ranked conference champions is going to lead to some dumb inclusions, especially if conferences are continued to allow the farce of facing division champions against each other in a single game to determine the overall conference champion.

If you eliminated conference championship games, or only allowed them as the Big 12 currently does them, the system would be greatly improved, though there's still the stupid issue of taking the top six conference champs automatically. There should be other criteria in order for a conference champ to be eligible, including a cap on losses (I'd propose 2), and a rankings threshold (I'd suggest 16).
