Lets be honest by Vairish84

for every Jordan Johnson a top recruit who, for whatver reason, didn't find the field there will be dozens of kids who were mediocre with an inflated view of their ability and didn't find the field.

It is highly unlikely, you will ever find a star in the portal. The best you can hope to find is a McCloud or a Gilman. A good, not great, player at a position of need.

A grad recruit like McCloud, if he was really good, would have headed to the NFL. Gilman is an exception because of the Naval Academy.

However, look at Isaiah Pryor. Top recruit. tOSU. couldn't find the field. We had a huge need at safety last year, and he couldn't crack the line up. This year, he has to out play Kiser for the rover.

The transfer portal is what it is. It won't be Rodeo Drive. It is the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Starters will stay put. Grad transfers with NFL talent will go to the NFL. It will be underclassmen who can't find the field and upperclassmen who have been passed by better players. It is a place to plug a hole. It is not a way to build a team.

I am hoping Jack Coan plays well, but lets be honest. Due to injury he lost his starting job and couldn't win it back. We had a complete lack of experience at QB coming back. He made sense. However, if you took a vote, particularly after the spring game, I bet half the board, if not more, would want Buchner to start and for the team to take its lumps and build for 2022.
