expect a National Championship, and is reasonable? I'm not sure there are any other big program coaches that haven't won a national championship that haven't already reached their potential. It's easy to sit here and say ND should throw $50M at Saban, but Texas reportedly tried the blank check approach with him and was rebuffed. Other have tried similar approaches with Urban. Maybe he really has a unique love for ND that would get him to accept that approach from ND when he has reportedly turned others down, but there are many reasons to assume that is not the case.

With respect to Campbell, you have to keep in mind that ISU is nowhere near ND's brand. He's certainly not a guaranteed success at a bigger program, but nobody really is unless we hire a proven national championship winner (and see above for why that might not be realistic).
