Yes and no. We lost 31-14 with the ball at the 8 at the end by btd

We failed to get another TD going for it on 4th down. So, you are correct to an extent -- but even at the 10 minute mark had we scored on any of those drives we are at 31-21 and the same ending. Still a loss. Hence your point has some merit. But...

Mixed in there was the notion that maybe Bama will make a mistake, a self inflicted wound somewhere down the stretch. Hand us that extra short field for a miracle.

The true error in the game was not sticking with 3-5 yard plays all game long and running straight at them over and over and over again -- because a) it was working when we did, and b) their defense would wear down since a side effect of their offense is they get no rest while they are on offense.

The odds of getting into the game and winning on a bit of a miracle turn of events were much higher by running clock than going 3 and out rapidly and handing Bama 3-4 extra possessions, which was at best going to result in 10 more points for them.

We did get an onside kick -- and I guarantee you Saban did't say "I don't give a shit if we recover this or not -- go ahead and fumble it #6." That plus some other fluke mistake -- plus not getting our TD called back -- meant the strategy wasn't entirely wrong. The plays we called most series were.
