ND has always been limited by the current talent level by Camarillo Brillo

at quarterback and wide receiver.

Ian Book is a great Notre Dame man, always gave the team everything he has, never gave up, competed until the end. But he does not have the skills to take on a defense like Bama or Clemson (or OSU most likely).

Skowronek? I would have loved to have this guy for four years. He can make tough catches and would be an excellent possession receiver.

Javon is another solid player.

But in the end, and I don't mean this harshly, but these guys are what Rocky Balboa described himself, "ham and eggers." Solid, competitive guys, great teammates, great individuals who will do Notre Dame proud in their personal lives. But nowhere near the elite studs to beat the Bamas or Clemsons of the world.

The rest of the bunch (Austin, when healthy, Lenzy, Davis, Keys) were apparently not good enough to play consistently. Which puzzles me because it wouldn't hurt to have them try to go deep a few times. I think that goes back to coaching and scheme.

The true freshmen (Johnson and Watts) who have potential and talent were not used at all. Again, coaching and scheme.

A few bright spots for the future: Williams and Tyree and running back; Mayer at tight end.

Tyler Buchner better be fucking good.
