Important notes on articles:

• Please do not copy entire articles into your post; rather, provide links to them.. We are now links-only for ALL Internet publications. If only a small portion of the article pertains to your post, Fair Use allows you to copy those one or two paragraphs, provided you cite the author's name and the publication for which he writes. Otherwise, put a link in the HTTP Link box.
• Even if you're copying a reference to an article, provide a link to the page from which the article came. We're trying to cut down on duplicate topics, and the posting process will check the link to your article to see if it's already being discussed on this board. At the very least, you'll save yourself some grief on the boards.
• If your first reaction after reading the article you're going to share is the author is uninformed / stupid / a jerk / all of the above, it's not worth sharing with anyone. Bleeding the clock was the right strategy, even down 14. Our only hope to win was to limit their possessions and hope that we could score more efficiently than them. It was a long shot but getting into a track meet was the surest way to disaster. That drive you reference was actually looking good until the interception. What made that interception a killer was that it occurred on the type of play that Book usually excels at, namely, a play where he released to the right and had some room to either run or pass. Mayer was actually open, Book just underthrew it. A TD on that drive and at 21-14 Alabama has some game pressure on them.

This does not change the fact that Alabama was clearly the better team and that our recruiting deficit on the outside is unacceptable, but given the circumstances I thought we had the right offensive gameplan. The trouble is we basically needed perfection to have a chance and that didn't happen.
