I'll regret this post later tonight.... by ndgotrobbedin97

But, what I saw against Clemson was 3 things:

1. ND started very well, didn't cash in when they should have and paid for that later.
2. Kelly allowed the avalanche to strike again early in the 2nd quarter, after (in my opinion) outplaying Clemson in the 1st quarter. Coaching, adjustments, yada yada.
3. Admittedly, it's hard to beat a really good team twice, especially when that team needs the game more than you. So, I'll grant that. I didn't think ND would win that game going in for that reason along with Lawrence playing, so that was not a surprise. But, the blowout nature of it was the concern.

The road to competitiveness that I see for ND today is to game plan like the 1st Clemson game. Give up the passing game to Jones. Try to take away Harris and the running game. Make Jones beat you. He likely will, but you don't have a lot of choices, and I'd rather make him beat you than Harris on the ground.

Jones is not mobile like Lawrence, which is more like Uiagalelei. That's the one key I'd focus on if I had Lea's job (current job). He's more of a game manager.....with a shit-ton of talent around him. Every game manager should have that. But, if you have to do something, I'd try that and try to pressure Jones. Try.

I really believe ND was closer to Clemson than the last game appeared. That was a bed-shitting by Kelly and his staff, and frankly, Book wilted when he couldn't get out of the pocket.

One would certainly hope that ND has game-planned for the same kind of pressure....trying to keep Book in the pocket with a controlled outside rush.

If ND can somehow play with more edge, and a better game plan I think they can at least hang around until the 3rd quarter, hopefully longer.

There is also the unknown of whether Clemson or Alabama is the better team. Right now, I'd bet on Bama, but this year makes it almost impossible to be sure.

So, who knows. This likely gets away from ND at some point. I just hope that point is the 2nd half, not the 1st.

If ND somehow won, who's going streaking through the quad with me? Bring your green hat.
