Count me among those who thinks Zelalem is an overrated prospect. I watched him at the U-20 World Cup in 2015, and I came away much more impressed with the likes of Cameron Carter Vickers, Matt Miazga, Emerson Hyndman, Paul Arriola, and Rubio Rubin. Zelalem seemed weak and not particularly skilled. Even in his MOTM performance against horrible New Zealand, he made at least 95% of his touches with his right foot, and I remember only one pass where he showed excellent vision/skill. He was pretty much invisible in the knockout rounds.
He's still 19, but I don't see much in Zelalem now that makes me think he's destined to become a USMNT regular.
If Dortmund sign him, it will be on a free transfer. That seems about the right price to me. I'd be happy if he joined BVB though, given their pretty strong history of developing young players.
