ND fired Ty after 3 years because he was a terrible recruiter and his on-the-field success was dwindling.

If it turned out Freeman was Jimmy Lake 2.0 (to use a recent example of another young promoted defensive coordinator who failed), I'd imagine ND would fire him before his contract ran out.

Of course, Freeman seems to be a great recruiter, which Lake and Ty were not.
