Shake down the thunder

I was fortunate to be a student in Ara’s last three years. When Devine was named, campus reaction was muted for someone who was a very experienced pro and college coach. He delivered. At my ten year reunion, the newly-hired Lou Holtz, again with a ton of experience, spoke to us in the library auditorium, and it was clear that ND remained in excellent hands.

Davie, Willingham and Weiss all had moments but proved too limited to deliver as the previous three did. Kelly, as odious as his personality and brand proved to be, brought a competency back to South Bend, but not a soul.

Stoops, Gruden, Urban et al had a chance, but never jumped on board. Freeman has. His experience doesn’t compare, but if his reported hallway conversation with the Bayou Bostonian is even close to accurate, I’m all in. This may prove to be the beginning of a Terry Brennan fiasco, but I think it’s worth the risk. Just ditch that 3 man front.

What’s the gist of the hallway conversation? *

…Kelly walks in room, no one notices.

Lou, Saban, Dabo walk in room and command attention.
