Your tackles need to have more length to cover more space, oftentimes one on one. Centers have to be quick and get to a lower point of attack, often with help and in confined space.

Your average center has to be smarter than your average guard, since he is making the line calls. This reduces the pool of players and accounts, slightly, for the smaller size.
