In reply to: I agree with this. Who cares about winning a NY6 bowl game  posted by DomerJon

No chance of playing Oregon in a NY6 bowl. Oregon either will go to the CFP, the Rose Bowl (against a Big Ten opponent) or miss the NY6 entirely.

Oklahoma? Possible but extremely unlikely. Only chance of playing Oklahoma in a NY6 bowl would involve Oklahoma failing to win the Big XII title game but finishing with a high enough CFP ranking to qualify for an at-large NY6 bowl bid (they're currently #13 in the CFP rankings, which would leave them on the outside looking in unless they win the conference).

Michigan? By far the best chance of the three, although not guaranteed by any means. Basically, Michigan would have to finish with the third-highest ranking among Big Ten teams (with the champion going to the CFP), and still finish ranked high enough for an at-large NY6 bowl bid.

In any event, I think ND's opponent in a NY6 bowl would be determined more than anything else by who wins the ACC. As I said above, if Wake wins the ACC they're almost certainly going to be placed in the opposite NY6 bowl from Cincinnati, and they would be our bowl opponent. If Pitt wins, there's a chance that they get placed against Cincinnati and we face the other at-large NY6 team.
