See Michigan State this year as a good example. So it's no longer just about recruiting classes (although those obviously are a huge factor) when determining talent level on the field. Hopefully ND can use that portal to our advantage as well (maybe NIL $$ would help here also?).

On the flip side of the Michigan State net gain, a situation like Jordan Johnson's departure knocks ND's class for 2020 down to #23 or so (independent of his actual production).

Also, I think the QB situation is the one "inefficiency" (on the field) that can allow a team to outperform their ranking here, or significantly hinder their success.

Obviously coaching moves the needle up, down or neutral.
