Kelly has been that the QB seldom keeps the ball on the read option plays. They kind of morph it into the running back picking which side he wants to run to and that makes a slow developing play develop even more slowly.

Even with Buchner in the game, the defense seldom accounts for the possibility that he might keep the ball and run to the backside. It is almost always open.
