.... Mertz, even if behind Coan, has a higher ceiling. So he decided to stick with Mertz even after Coan recovered from his injury. Chryst may be right about the ceiling, but Mertz isn't far enough along to carry the load.


Coan was 12-6 as a starter at Wisconsin.

Some of those Badger fans are misremembering that he wasn't Johnny Unitas and that in 2019, he had Jonathan Taylor in the backfield to lean on and even then, they lost four games (three losses were to top-6 teams).

I am hoping that with more maturity, he raises his game with ND.

#11 Michigan, #18 Iowa and #9 Minnesota. Those were rankings going into those games.
