There is apparently an all-day, staff-wide "Pot of Gold" recruiting event going on today for ND football. Several of the most elite prospects in the 2023 class are reporting new offers, including Arch Manning.
The fact that this is noteworthy and/or is being sold to fans by the paysites (and other extensions of ND’s PR arm) as somehow above and beyond basic job duties for a big-time football program reveals how poorly recruiting has been managed since Weis left 11 years ago.
I do think the current program/staff is dialed in to improve recruiting results, as a reaction to finally being called out for it.
ND.
And you are doing a disservice to the good sites out there by falsely proclaiming such BS
But if it resonates with prospects, I couldn't care less how they market it. Nice that they appear to mixing things up a bit.
the reactions by the recruits on twitter suggests that they appreciate the attention even if they do not really lean our way.
Traemon Williams (Packers) retired yesterday on his 38th birthday.
Some people like doubling up on event association.
Just as long as it works.
just get it done.
Kelly has never emphasized recruiting. He just hired a 25-year old unaccomplished GA as his Safeties coach. It will be interesting to see if elite Safety talent will put their NFL dreams in his hands. Same with Mickens and others. So far, not so much.
just get it done.
EDIT: And by marketing it/PR - I mean it's pretty clear ND wants us all to know they are trying harder, Freeman is the best defensive recruiter since Elko, and Kelly is doing so much more, talking with recruits, etc.
brought in Shayne Simon and Jack Lamb.
247 Composite: Simon #90, Lamb #99, Burnham #115.
Simon was a top 50 player on 247.
2019-2021 recruiting classes were rough for LB position.
We have Ziegler committed, with Burnham expected to join today. We're probably the favorite for Cheeks and Tuihalamaka as well. That would give us four 4* LBs, including two in the top 100.
#79 on 247 Sports, from Hilton Head, SC. Odd to imagine someone choosing to leave Hilton Head and live in Indiana. People in these parts pay a lot of money to do the opposite.
Per the podcasts, ND might not lead for Sneed, but apparently Freeman is very close with his HS coach, and they are looking closely at ND. Some pretty decent LB prospects might be on the outside looking in on signing day. When was the last time we saw that happen? Long way to go though.
of the 2020 and 2021 classes.
4 total.
Let that sink in.
Lea is not a good recruiter and add the fact he had one foot out the door...
Hopefully Freeman isn't simply better than Lea, like Kelly is "ND's best coach since Holtz." And hopefully he can stay engaged as I suspect he'll be looking to land a HC gig within the next 12-24 months.
