the real solution would be for the professional league to create a true minor league which would give players a choice; that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Notre Dame could have led the way on this, but instead has been "monitoring the landscape" and the money has gotten out of control and coaches are now making 10+ million per year, with staffs of 30+ guys, major bowl contracts and tournament money, etc.

It is the de facto minor league.

And besides, even if one were to accept "amateurism" it is ridiculous that someone cannot profit off of their own name, image, and likeness.
