At this point we seen several iterations of what a 3 to 4* quarterback looks like under Kelly. He’s generally able to put together an offense that can dominate against weak teams, be inconsistent against average teams and play poorly against good/great teams.

Book may have been below average at throwing downfield but his intangibles seemed about 60% of the offense. I don’t think Mac Jones would have improved the offense. Perhaps made it worse. Kelly will never have an great offense unless or until he has a quarterback that can make the throws he wants and beat a defense with his feet when the play breaks down.

I welcome Coan to the team and support him as I do all of the players. But I have no expectation that he’s the elite quarterback Kelly requires to improve his offense.
