The Ivy's are not acting in a vacuum. With USC reversing its decision and going to remote education for the Fall term, that's another of the PAC-12 schools that will have to explain why athletes should be taking risks that are unacceptable for other students.

The AD's are in denial hoping for a break. The trends are against them, and they are running out of clock. The P5 will hold out as long as possible in the hope of avoiding a financial catastrophe. Without the huge revenues of the P5, the Ivy's had less incentive for keeping their options open. But there is absolutely no evidence that things will get better rather than worse over the next month.

Plan accordingly. When people ask about the permanent consequences of COVID, one of them may be a restructuring of higher ed, including intercollegiate athletics.
