Alumni Association just posted that ND will have a modified schedule for the fall 2020-21 semester.

Start Date: August 10th (2 weeks prior than originally scheduled)
No Fall Break
Semester ends before Thanksgiving

Several universities are adopting similar schedules

I believe South Carolina is starting the week of 8/20, eliminating fall break, sending kids home for the semester at thanksgiving, and finishing the fall semester remotely.

Lots of truncated schedules ending right before Thanksgiving *

I assume that is students on campus and not remote.

If football happens, does that impact practice plans? What normally happens during that time football wise?

The football team doesn't take fall break or thanksgiving

usually because of their game/practice schedule so this wouldn't have any impact on them. They are also usually on campus all summer into the fall (perhaps a small break before the fall starts) but I'm sure the plan will be once they're on campus, they stay on campus and don't travel home for breaks. The older football players may be used to this but it could be tough on the younger players. It certainly will be tough for some freshman students who are a little homesick and could use something like a fall break to recharge.

Kids will be on campus, but remote learning still enabled. (link)

going again and putting plans in place.

Agree, and remote learning as a supplement to in-person
