I would disagree with the notion that the SEC provided the foundation for the dominant college sports business in the country.

As much as it pains me to admit it, that foundation was laid where the intersection of high-profile football and television viewers yielded its greatest return, and that would be the Big 10.

The television dollars that now fuel the business of college football were already flowing before the SEC's recent run of greatness, thanks mostly to the Big 10 market strength, with no small assist to Notre Dame.
