versus good (Baylor, Miss. State, Oregon - all ranked 20-25) but not great competition. The beat goes on.

Let's face it.

No one in the Notre Dame athletic administration gives a rat's ass about the softball program.

Notre Dame apparently has a softball program to be compliant with Title IX. Recall the first softball coach was Brian Boulac (RIP), a former Notre Dame tight end and later a football coach at Notre Dame. The program was started not to be champions but to be compliant, nothing has changed or apparently will change.

Notre Dame essentially has a quasi-club softball team with paid coaches.

Notre Dame would probably be better off shuttering the softball program and adding women's hockey.

Bou told a great story about Lisa Fernandez

Apparently he was super close to getting her to ND.

I forget the details but boy was that a jaw-breaker if she had come to ND.

As it was, Teri Kobata was pretty darn good. In the current format, she would have led ND to a couple of regional titles.

ND could have had Bama's coach Pat Murphy!

Before taking the Bama job, a major league source told the ND AD that he knew an excellent coach ND should hire. He was asked if that coach was female. When told "no, it was a male", the AD said "not interested"! It was Murphy and he would have taken the job.

Another example.

of the gross mismanagement of the softball program at Notre Dame. Notre Dame is not serious about competing for championships in softball.

Murphy probably would have brought on board Alyson Habetz, his long tome assistant coach who recently retired after 25 years assisting Murphy. Murphy and Habetz are not shy about expressing their Catholic faith but do not wear it on their sleeve.

Murphy is a tireless and relentless recruiter. He started the Alabama softball program. Juxtapose Murphy with Boulac.

What a cluster**** of mismanagement. It is not the best person for the job but the person who has the correct gender.

EDIT: The Notre Dame athletic administration would pass on Mike Candrea because he is the wrong gender.
