From Indiana, coached at Purdue and Creighton where he won award as pitching coach, now has led OU to MAC championship.
Should be able to recruit the upper mid-west effectively. I note several lads from Ohio Catholic schools on his roster.
top of my wish list if/when servais moves on
things stood out to me:1)base running has been and is still a problem. 2)The most glaring weakness is lack of team speed. Much more impt in baseball than most realize, leads to poor bases running with players being thrown out more often, lack of speed in outfield is a killer, hitting instead of doubles you have singles. Go Iirsh!
Players' strengths and weaknesses. We continue to blindly send runners and make steal attempts that are doomed. All signs point to bad coaching as the biggest offender.
About the only thing Aoki has done with which I agree is the game for ALS (Pete Fratus). In my opinion he is an awful game day manager, evaluator of talent, and builder of a baseball team. I have to believe he and his staff are let go. I keep thinking that there is absolutely no risk to ND to let him go and again it can't be cost prohibitive. It's an easy and necessary business decision whether the AD cares about the program or not.
