Peter Jackson restored World War I film stock from the UK Imperial War Museum archives. Cleaned it up, eliminated the jitter, colorized it (and rendered it in 3D as an option). The narration is actual quotations from WW I veterans (recorded several decades ago). It is a phenomenal film, and benefits from the large screen of a movie theater. If there is a theater near you showing it, I strongly encourage you to go see it. The restoration completely transforms the footage.
the whole project is brilliant. Hopefully this also includes the half hour or so where Jackson explains how this was done, the surviving film "remedied", etc. etc.
