Carry on baggage is what delays the boarding of any flight.

I fly a fair bit for work. 90% of my trips involve packing safety boots and a hard hat. For any trip longer than a day that means I have to check a bag. It takes me about the time it takes to walk on the plane to board and get seated. My backpack goes in front of me for most flights unless I have a bulk head row or the plane is so small only backpacks fit in the over head.

Watching people lug their bags on board and have the spatial awareness of an elephant in a broom closet both when putting them up and walking down the aisle is amusing and maddening.
