Notre Dame Recruiting Class Officially #1 on Both Scout and Rivals
As I wrote at the beginning of last month, attrition moved Alabama down and Notre Dame up to Number One in the revised "enrolled" recruiting rankings. The Irish are now number one both in average star ranking (average quality of incoming recruit) and the overall (very arbitrary) point rankings on both Scout and Rivals. Scout recently moved Notre Dame up #1 as covered in Re-ranking the Class of 2008.
Here's an excerpt from Scott Kennedy:
Here's an excerpt from Scott Kennedy:
"It's been stated before, but I don't think it can be said enough; the recruiting job that Charlie Weis and staff did last year to secure the #1 class in the country in the midst of Notre Dame's worst season in its history, is one of the best recruiting jobs I've ever seen."And here's Scout's re-ranked top 10 and their key losses:
1 2 Notre Dame None
2 1 Alabama Devonta Bolton; Melvin Ray
3 3 Miami Antonio Harper
4 4 Ohio State Shawntel Rowell
5 5 Georgia Toby Jackson
6 6 Michigan Marcus Witherspoon; Taylor Hill
7 10 UCLA None
8 7 LSU DeAngelo Benton
9 11 Clemson None
10 8 FSU Debrale Smiley; Anthony Hill

Too bad Kirk Herby doesn't think these rankings matter
since this team is showing that it thinks it can win, wants to win, and can win...there will be another top 5 class on the way early next year. GO IRISH
2008 was an outstanding year for which Weis and his staff should be congratulated. However 2009 recruiting got off to a slow start and seems to have stalled. Did the staff relax after last years recruiting blitz. I hope not, to compete on the highest level ND needs a top 5 class evey year.
Anon 8:20,
Don't get yourself in a big panic. The class is looking excellent already and they only have 14 commits. So, if you look at the rankings now they will be probably in the mid 30's, but still ahead of the likes of USC and USC always seems to do just fine. We are stll around 5 months away from signing day. We just need to land a few more key position players like Xavier Nixon and we will be in the top 5 when it is all said and done. You almost sound like that jerk Irish Mike.
ND does NOT need a top 5 class every year to compete on the highest level. They need top 10-15classes regularly with one or two top 5 classes mixed therein. With that talent, ND should be there at the end and win one or two.
Notably, USC is absent in the reranked top 10, but no one suggests they can't win a NC. And yes, I know, their recruiting has been lights out over the previous 3-4 years (at least), but the point still stands.
...I must have missed the link to the Rivals re-listing...please provide...
...opps...just found it, thanks...
The current '09 class is ranked 9th with 14 commits. There are a few more elites ND is in good shape on.
As far as the 2010 class they are ahead on offers over the last couple of years.
Charlie never sleeps.

recruitng class rankings don't mean a thing.
ND does not need a top 5 class to compete each year. There are 119 division I football teams if you have top 5 every year you need to finish in the top 5. All ND is doing is wasting elite talent on a terribly coached squad.
Weis is a hack who got his HC job on false pretenses. Should've rolled up on his spine it'd done more to help this team than the sentiment for his poor gravy filled leg.
We can win the recruiting rankings for the next 10 years, but it is all for naught if we do not translate this elite talent into WINS! It pains me to see BCS busters every year that only have half the talent we do. Navy beat us last year? Come on! What we need to do is fire Fat Charlie, and bring in Skip Holtz! Go IRISH!!!
I agree with the last post. What were the recruiting rankings for the Boise State team that shocked Oklahoma? How about the rankings of the recruiting classes for the current Missouri team? On paper, ND beats most teams in regards to the quality of player it brings in. However, the game is not played on paper. As long as other teams continue to have a "schematic advantage" in the coaching box, ND will be average at best and squander the great talent it has. ND needs to cut ties with Charlie, and bring in a real coach. Case in point, look at Florida. Ron Zook was an amazing recruiter, but an awful game-day coach. After stocking the program full of talent with Zook, Florida brought in a real coach and it won them a national championship.
What a joke. Seeing the horrible product on the field the last 2 years, it pains me to know highly touted our athletes are. Our program has serious problems. We are all out of excuses.
One word...Daviehamweis
