|Favorite Quote from an ND Coach:||I have a few...
The first, as inscribed in a copy of "Notre Dame Football - The T Formation":
To "Namurtha's Father",
In appreciation of your friendship and the many fine services you have given to our Athletic Dept.
Much success awaits you.
The second, a conversation I had with Digger outside the old fieldhouse after the 1978 Pitt football game pep rally...
Digger: "Wow. With a shot like that, you'd be a star on my team."
Me (age 13): "Do you really think so?"
Digger: "I have no idea if you can play basketball, but half my team couldn't make that shot, and they have a lot more practice than you."
The "shot", I made was tossing an empty beer bottle (not mine) into a garbage can from about 15 feet.
The third, from Ara, at a CYO dinner when I was 11, after I told him I listen to the cassette tape noted below and get so excited hearing him speak...
Ara (in a stern voice): "Son, whoever made that tape shouldn't have. What is said in the locker room is between me and the team and should never be made public."
Then, with a smile and a wink of his eye, "But it was pretty good, wasn't it?"
|Miscellaneous Data:||I have a cassette tape of Ara Parseghian's half-time and post-game speeches from ND's 13-11 victory over Alabama in the Orange Bowl on January 1, 1975 - Ara's last game.|
