Political Philosophy: | I'm a pragmatic idealist (or an idealistic pragmatist) and though I admire the tenets of classical liberalism, I have voted for both parties and for independents at various times. But politics as it's currently practiced in the United States disillusions me more and more. Everybody loses when people refuse to listen to opposing viewpoints and work toward reasonable compromises.
Religious Philosophy: | Technically, I'm Roman Catholic, with a capital "C," but practically, my religious beliefs are more lower-case catholic. Dogma of all types makes me uneasy, and though I find great comfort and beauty in many Catholic rituals and think most of the church's teachings on social justice render faith comprehensible to me, I fully acknowledge that had I been born and/or reared in a different time and place, my belief system would undoubtedly be different. Rather than seeing this as a reason to discount all religious belief, however, I see it as a sign that there are many roads to God. Namaste.
