Beware Ticket Scams

This is a report from one of our posters on how someone tried to scam him:

Swore he had season tickets in hand. Asked several times if I was a "broker" because he didn't want to lose the season tickets if they were resold. Would have been convincing if I didn't know for a fact that nobody has tickets in hand.

Was going to send them FedEx overnight to my house tomorrow. However, I had to give the FedEx man a receipt that I'd wired the cash Western Union to him. I knew he was scamming but still pressed him on why he just didn't use FedEx C.O.D.. He insisted "This IS C.O.D.. I don't think you know how these things work."

Told me he selected me because my post mentioned that the tickets were for a serviceman returning from Iraq (which they are). Said, "I've got a soft spot for our soldiers." Makes me want to puke that he was knowingly going to screw a combat veteran returning from Iraq.

He said his name was Randy Stevens. Talked with a slight NY accent.

If you're reading this Randy, screw you.

"Randy" has, unfortunately, scammed a number of ND fans out of their money. Among the stories he's used, he's claimed to be a season-ticket holder or Monogram Club member who can't use the tickets because his wife is having a multiple birth in the near future or he's working extensively in Europe during football season.

Unfortunately, scams like this are all too common in the ND ticket market. That's why you should remember the following things when executing a ticket transaction:

A new scam brought to our attention: People are claiming to have tickets to ND road games and want to trade for tickets to good ND home games. Because the road game tickets aren't mailed until just before the game, they don't have the tickets in hand yet, but want you to mail the home game ticket you already have, and they swear on their mother's life they'll mail the road game ticket as soon as they get it.

The best way to deal with this scam is to separate the transactions. Have the person with the road game tickets buy the home game tickets from you. Once the road game tickets arrive in the mail, he can send them to you and you can pay him. If they're legit, they shouldn't have a problem with that.
