If Freeman is expected to be CEO coach, he has no experience in that role and it will undoubtedly take some growing into. He also has limited experience as big-time DC and at a bright lights environment like ND; so that's another couple of roles to grow into. Then there is the limited peer / protoge network (which you note); but maybe the ND name helps there. We aren't a cesspool.

So while Freeman's character, energy, and reputation as tactician speak volumes, there are substantial OJT challenges. For these reasons, and despite the timing, he was not my #1 for the job.

I wish the guy well, however. Nice to have a guy who "gets it" at the helm. He clearly has the support of his coaching colleagues.
