someone asked me earlier what I disliked about Rees by jt

so, just for the record I would like to say that I don't dislike Rees. From what I understand, he is a nice guy and he had to put up with Kelly's bullshit as a player and as a coach, so I have sympathy for the guy.

With that said, if we hire a first time head coach (Freeman), that coach needs to have a very experienced and steady hand on the opposite side of the ball from his specialty. The tendency for first time head coaches can be to try and micromanage, especially if you're not completely 100% confident in your staff. I just saw an example of this first hand these past few months at the collegiate level, and it was ugly--the head coach walking into the OL meetings and demanding certain pro schemes and run fit schemes contrary to what the OL coach wanted to do, telling the coach which player to play, etc. It's not a successful formula, and it turned out poorly for all involved.

As much as I despise Swarbrick (adjusts glasses) he has a bit of a point with the "CEO coach" mindset. That doesn't mean that the head coach can't call plays or coach a position, but it really does mean that the head coach should have the vision, and he should hire coaches and recruit players that fit into and buy into that vision. He needs to trust that the guys who are running his vision are experts at what they do, and he needs to let them do their jobs. I don't see how that would really be possible with a guy with so little experience and no experience outside of the shit system he played in and coached in under Kelly. As soon as things stumble (and it's bound to happen), doubt can creep in.

And if we don't hire an inexperienced head coach, I cannot see why an experienced coach would want to have Rees as OC (qb coach, perhaps). Let's look at the guy's resume without our ND glasses on--would we hire this guy for one of the most high profile coordinator positions in the game? Of course not.
