One should start with the reality that the term "NY6 " by ACross

Is a misleading marketing sleight of hand.

Before things went to shit, the accurate term was "major bowl." There were 4. And at the end there were 5 if you counted the Fiesta, and still counted the Rose, which was almost always a meaningless farce. In the late 1990s the athletic directors and conference commissioners became more shameless as a cabal in their pursuit of mutual assured pieces of the pie. So we saw more restrictive bowl tie ins. And then the NC game which was more cover for more conference tie ins. And then the 4 team playoff.

What we have now are 3 meaningful post season games. That carves out the best 4 teams. So that the "New Years 6" is a glorified consolation bracket with the top team being no higher than the 5th best team and dipping well down the top 20 to fill up the carve up the pie tie ins.

So NY6 actually means less than did "major bowl". It is more accurately understood as mediocre, second tier bowl games, which I guess is better than the farce we played against Rutgers.

And still 11 years in and Kelly can't claim a victory in any post season game that wasn't third or 4th tier.
