Right Kinda Cracks by Kayo

  • I’m pleased to get the win but not particularly impressed by it… for the eighth time this season.

  • “We're ascending as a football team,'' Kelly said after the game. ''Any time you try to put a resume together, it's about how you play later in the year.” Translation: Ignore the Cincinnati loss, playoff committee.

  • I’m hard pressed to think of a Notre Dame football player I’ve enjoyed watching more than Kyren Williams.

  • Fun stat of the day: Williams had 70 yards rushing. 67 of those yards came after contact.

  • Jay Woolfolk, Virginia’s freshman quarterback who played instead of injured starter Brennan Armstrong, is a talented young man; but his inexperience had more to do with holding the Cavaliers to three points than Notre Dame’s defense did.

  • A popular NIL deal allows paying customers to play online video games against their favorite players. Logan Diggs took it a step farther, merging live action and a video game with control to the highest bidder.

  • Most college football fans have seen the crazy ending of the South Dakota - South Dakota State game by now. I understand what SD State coach John Stiegelmeier thought he was doing, but punting the ball out of bounds was the better option. It would have taken about as much time as the pass; and even if a rushed punt only covered 15-20 yards the desperation heave couldn’t have come close to the end zone.

  • I’m giving Florida my Pinkel Award nomination this week. Playing 1-AA Samford this late in the season is bad enough, but letting Samford score 50 points is a remarkable display of self-debasement.

  • Many have mentioned the stat this weekend; but because I first heard it from him, I’m going to give ABC’s Dave Pasch my Hardin Award nomination for citing the nominally true but worthless note about 22 top ten teams losing this season. The stat is supposed to tell us what a wild season we’re enjoying, but that isn’t its relevance. What the stat really tells us is that early season polls are worthless. We haven’t seen many poor teams beating good teams. We have seen poor teams beating other poor teams that happen to be ranked in the top ten.

  • Examples of top ten teams that lost in this “remarkable” year for upsets are Iowa, Florida, Texas A&M, North Carolina, and Penn State. Having seen those teams play through week 11, it’s laughable that any of them were ranked in the top ten.

  • Remember when Miami and Florida State played to see which team would have a shot at the national championship? Now they play to see which team sucks more.

  • Very nice game by Bo Bauer who looks the part of a guy named Bo Bauer.

  • Filed under the category of things I never want to see again: Jack Coan carrying the ball on fourth and one when Kyren Williams is an option.

  • The Irish got a football win, a hockey sweep vs. Wisconsin, and a pair of basketball wins. Add winning the conference championship game for men’s soccer and a win in the NCAA women’s soccer tournament, and you have one of the best sports weekends at Notre Dame in a long time.
