Agreed. And that is disappointing. by austindomer

It's a very good class, no doubt; quite a few of these guys were courted by the best programs in the country.

But it's not a standout class.

Ohio State, A&M (still showing as #3), LSU, OU, Clemson, and even UNC (!) are all probable candidates to jump us based on average player ranking on 247. We're filling a lot of gaps with solid 4* talent but it's the same story for the entirety of the post-Holtz years: an inability to recruit elite playmakers.

Recruiting is an inexact science and the 2022 class could very well turn out to be far better than its eventual ranking. But, at the moment, this looks to be a class that will keep ND on its trajectory of a respectable 10-11 wins a year against the low and mid-tier teams. But I don't know if there's enough talent here to overcome Kelly's uninspired offensive system and beat an elite team. That's not good enough for those who remember Notre Dame dominating the recruiting rankings and on the field.

I'm pinning my hopes for our future recruiting on Freeman as he seems to have a gift for pulling top defensive talent.
