"Assuming Notre Dame wins out..." by eddysorin

Do the world a favor – the next time a Notre Dame fan starts a sentence with that, punch them in the face before they can finish.

After a desultory evening of watching Virginia Tech and Stanford lose by a combined score of 69-10, it’s time to confront the flatulent elephant in the room for Notre Dame football: This year’s schedule isn’t just “bad”, or “weak”, or “an off year”.

It’s the most pathetic slate of talentless, uninteresting teams assembled by a Notre Dame athletic director in my lifetime. It’s an affront to college football, and an insult not only to the fans, but to the team itself. They deserve the chance to prove themselves against nationally competitive teams.

If this team goes 11-1, this is the status of the 11 teams we will have beaten, through last night’s games:

- Combined record: 43-51 (0.457)
- Every team with at least 3 losses as of last night, with most yet to play their 9th game
- 6 of 11 teams have losing records
- Only 3 of 11 teams have records over .500

This is not Notre Dame football. Don’t try to tell me that this is a “national schedule”, because we play teams from all points of the compass. Georgia Tech is not Georgia.

Going even 12-0 against this schedule would not be enough to justify a playoff spot. I’m sorry, I do not accept Cincinnati as a power team.

This Jack Swarbrick ACC experiment is D.O.A. If you’re not playing a single SEC team in a 12-game schedule, no one is taking you seriously, and no one should take you seriously.
