Maybe I was alone in the thought that Jones was an awful by jt

choice and a terrible fit.

A guy like Weis will not want to dramatically change his scheme. He might be able to occasionally incorporate different things, but a dramatic change? No way. It would be like June Jones or Mouse Davis running the veer.

Plus, the OL had been recruited and had played (well, those who had any experience in practice) in more of a traditional set, and it is a major adjustment to start running zone read type of stuff. Also, I believe that a decent amount of upper classmen were very loyal to Sharpley.

It just seemed like the worst possible choice, and it seemed like he made it because he was worried about Jones' transferring (which he ended up doing anyway). When Weis took over at Kansas, there was a kid who I coached against who was a qb at KU and who was a similar type of player and personality to Jones. He wanted to be wooed to stay at KU and didn't even show up to the first meeting; Weis, showing that he had actually learned something from his experience (though, don't worry, not very much) immediately dismissed him from the team.
