this brings up a good point by quasimodo

Since football is very risky for player's health including for years after they play their last game, wouldn't it be a good thing to require of the NCAA & NFL to set up long term health insurance policies for their players?

We talk about monetizing player's names, images, etc but how about limiting the downside for all players including the poor guys who get injured their freshman year, never make it big, and have to drop out of football due to injuries that linger long into adulthood?

Having long term (like 10 years) health insurance paid for as part of the scholarship deal probably wouldn't cost too too much but would protect people who suffer due to health issues long after their playing days are over.
