Use the running back depth chart as an illustration. by MobileIrish

In 2019, ND basically used Tony Jones. He was a really solid back. After Tony, the team didn’t really trust anyone else. Karen Williams played sparingly.

In 2020, Kyren earned most of the carries. Kyren had a great year and led the team. He was a joy to watch. Chris Tyree earned significant playing time as a freshman. Tyree has a really bright future.

I really lost track of the running backs available in 1990 because there were so many. Ricky Watters (5 NFL Pro Bowls), Rocket Ismail (Heisman Runner-Up), Tony Brooks, Rod Culver, Jerome Bettis (NFL HOF), Reggie Brooks (5th in Heisman, second all time at ND in yards per carry after George Gipp). Other future NFL players that year included Willie Clark and Dorsey Levins (later transferred to Georgia Tech).

I may be missing others. Yes, ND has developed solid talent under Kelly. Depth is most definitely not the same as under Holtz.
