Championship coaches elevate recruiting by jbrown_9999

There has been a lot discussion about how ND and its talent gap with other CFP schools. Lots of folks seem to believe that other schools have hotter/better locations, hotter girls, easier academics, etc. and that puts ND at a disadvantage for recruiting. When you actually look at recruiting success (or lack of success) at these other schools, it is quickly apparent that the head coach is the number one criteria for that success (not the location, girls, or academics). You will notice that the successful coaches at other schools below have significantly better recruiting results than those same schools enjoyed with different coaches.

In short, in the last 20 years, Alabama, Ohio St, Clemson, and Southern Cal were only Top 15 to Top 25 recruiting schools without the head coaches who made them recruiting powerhouses.

So while Kelly will be the ND coach until he retires, it is completely possible for ND to recruit better with a different coach since Kelly is really just holding serve given that the three ND coaches before him each also had at least one Top 10 class.

===============================================
Here are the average 247 composite results for various coaches. I have taken all recruiting rankings since 2000 and removed any coaching transition recruiting classes since those classes are usually outliers (I have also looked at the numbers using all classes and the numbers are actually not that different)
