A lot is different about the entire college football by wearendhockey

landscape now.

What would satisfy me would simply be that Notre Dame is good 4 seasons out of 5, or maybe 3 out of every 4, and when Notre Dame was "good", like we are this year, or like we were in 2012 or 2018, would be that we would actually be competitive with the other programs vying for a title.

But our good years are a mirage. The schedules have been watered down to the point that any coach at Notre Dame who isn't winning 10 and 11 games every damn year need not be retained. Didn't Dan Devine face more top-20 teams in 6 seasons than Brian Kelly has in 11? Didn't coaches up to and including Holtz play a fairly equivalent number of home games and road games? Certainly not like the home/road split now.

After the Alabama pantsing in 2012 and Kelly winning only 7 or 8 regular season games the next two years, he should have been gone. Period.
